July 2009 Honduras Trip

After flying into La Ceiba, our team hit the ground running. We settled in at Manos al Mundo and had our first meal and teaching. Pastor Janis and Pastor Justin were already here and had a great time of ministry planned for us. Early to bed as the day was to be busy tomorrow. Our first full day in the country we did a complete cleaning of Manos al Mundo and inventoried all the supplies. We had a lot of scrap wood laying around from various building projects so we decided we would pile it outside and use it for a bonfire. None of it was more than 2 or 3 feet in length. One of our cooks and a guard asked if they could have it and we said take anything you want. A couple of days later we took our group to the cooks house and the wood was now a wall in their new house.

We visited some of our feeding stations and the team saw first hand the work that Hands to the World is doing in Honduras. We fed the children and played games, we were able to bring a lot of school supplies for the local schools and the teachers were very pleased.

With the political situation here, some of the people sympathatic with the EX president have been holding protests. We saw only one, but the teachers are on strike... The children are holding protests against the teachers being on strike. One day we saw the kids returning from a protest with signs saying "We want our teachers back" and "We want to go to school". We all commented that we would probably not see that at home......

One of the days we went to Los Laurles (the dump feeding station) and painted the building where we do our feedings. The local kids had covered the front with grafitti, The high school kids on their trip cleaned and primed the wall, so all we did was put the final coat and paint the trim. We did not have a ladder so a few of the bigger guys held A J Giovannini so he could paint the top. We then broke out into groups of five and went through out the area for some ministry time with the people living in the area. This ministry time resulted in 3 salvations and many healings. Our nights were filled with church services with Pastor Justin teaching. The team really enjoyed the time we spent in the local churchs.

Many of our team members are on their first trip and it has moved them beyond their wildest dreams.

We also baptized our team members all of them! 100% of our team was baptized at the waterfall, officiated by Pastor Janis and assisted by Pastor Justin.
